[PloneDavis-Discuss] In need of a Plone to Wordpress Migration

Hi,

The college of engineering IT department has switched over to Wordpress for
their websites and we have a Plone 3 website that's been running for about
5 years on a server that they now want to shutdown. The only option they
are giving us for retaining the website on their servers is to migrate to
Wordpress.

I'm looking for someone that can do an automated migration. We just need to
get static stuff ported over. No dynamic functionality needs to be retained.

Would anyone here be interested in the job or know of a good contact that
can do this easily?

It depends on the structure of the content. If you mostly used the site
like a blog then it sounds possible:
http://ofaolain.com/blog/2011/03/26/migrating-from-plone-to-wordpress/
http://www.len.ro/work/plone-to-wordpress-migration/

My initial thought was just an Httrack dump to a static site, which is
fine if you're just archiving and don't need to add an future content.

Otherwise you definitely need to do some importing. One of the links
above actually does both a dump and import. What's not clear from the 2
pages is how much manual work afterwards needs to be done to make the
new site usable as tags and such might not carry over even if you go the
RSS pull route.

I might be available later in August depending on schedule and
compensation. End of dissertation is in site.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the links. We are interested in getting this done before the end
of August. If I don't find anyone else to do it earlier I'll let you know.

If I had to do this, I'd probably start with one of the JSON migration
packages that run in a transmogrifier pipeline. Once the pages are in files
in JSON, it ought to be easy to translate them to nearly anything.
